Black Friday has become such a phenomenon that some stores were even launching marketings on Thanksgiving last year, preserving their employees from category dinners and joyful festivities.

This year, a slew of major companies and stores have pushed back against that veer and will remain shut on Thanksgiving. Below are 20 of the biggest stores that will be shutting their doors on turkey daylight — though numerous will be still be opening early on Black Friday.

Costco

Nordstrom

This is mostly a group of employees who have volunteered to be there and some brought on by relatives or acquaintances to join in, a spokesperson told ThinkProgress.
Barnes& Noble

Sam’s Club

Burlington Coat Factory

DSW

“While numerous retail store will be opening for business on Thanksgiving Day, this year we continue the DSW tradition of preserving ours shut. Pedigree day is extremely important to us, and we want our accompanies to enjoy the holiday with their loved ones, ” DSW said in a statement. “Our stores will remain shut until 7 a. m. on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.”

The outdoor hobby superstore took a daring stance this month, announcing that it would close on both Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

“For 76 years, our co-op has been dedicated to one thing and one thing exclusively: their own lives outdoors. We is argued that being outside establishes our lives better. And Black Friday is the perfect time to remind us of this vital reality, ” said President and CEO Jerry Stritzke. “We’re other kinds of companyand while the rest of the world is campaigning it out in the aisles, well be investing our daylight a little differently.”
